Volunteers’ Week

Volunteers’ Week is an annual event which takes place at the start of June. It celebrates the contribution made by millions of volunteers across the UK. It’s run by NCVO in partnership with Volunteer Development Scotland, Volunteer Now(Northern Ireland) and Wales Council for Voluntary Action.

From showcasing the different volunteering roles on offer, taster sessions and team challenges with new partners, to volunteer recruitment events, awards ceremonies and launching new volunteering campaigns, events take place throughout the country.

Everyone is invited to join this national celebration of volunteers and volunteering, it’s up to you to decide exactly how you join in. Find an event local to you by using the following map and a selection of the some of the London events are also listed below.

Big Recruit – 7 June

To raise awareness of Volunteer Centres and their important place in the community, GLV are working with Team London and over 10 Volunteer Centres across London on The Big Recruit – a day when we are encouraging the public to go along to their local Volunteer Centre and have a chat about volunteering and find out what is going on in their local area. London Events

Barnet

Bexley

Friday 2 June, 12-2pm – Want to find out how to volunteer? Want to make a difference in your community? Come and meet the team at Volunteer Centre Bexley who will be hosting a volunteer fair at Geddes Place Church Hall, Geddes Place, Bexleyheath (Behind Nandos) DA6 7DJ.

Brent

Thursday 1 June through to Wednesday 7 June –  Volunteer Centre Croydon will be hosting themed volunteer recruitment days for the whole of Volunteers’ Week at their Team Croydon Shop, Unit 32, Centrale Shopping Centre, Croydon CR0 1TY. For more details please see this flyer.

Volunteer Centre Enfield will be part of the Big Recruit on 7 June 10am-3pm at a venue in the Enfield Borough. More details to follow.

Ealing

Thursday 8 June, 11am -2pm – Volunteer Centre Ealing will be hosting a Volunteer Fair at Ealing Central Library, Green Room 1st Floor, Ealing Broadway Centre, London W5 5JY. This is your opportunity to meet a wide range of really interesting local organisations, to ask questions, make contacts and take the next step forward in volunteering. Greenwich

Thursday 1 June, 11am-3pm – The Greenwich Volunteer Fair is taking place at Volunteer Centre Greenwich, Equitable House, 10 Woolwich New Rd, London SE18 6AB. Local organisations will be holding stalls with lots of information about volunteering. There will also be help for you to research other volunteering opportunities that are provided by organisations that are unable to attend in person.

Hackney

Thursday 1 June, 1-4pm – Volunteer Managers Forum and Networking Lunch at St Joseph’s Hospice. If you work with or support volunteers in Hackney, join Volunteer Centre Hackney for an informal networking lunch and share your experiences, challenges and learning. Free event, please email hov@vchackney.org to book your space.

Wednesday 7 June, 10am- 4pm – How can you make the difference? @ Volunteer Centre Hackney. Drop into Volunteer Centre Hackney and discover the answers to all your volunteering questions. Find out what opportunities are on offer and search for your ideal role with support from our team of friendly volunteers. Free refreshments.

Wednesday 7 June, 3.30-5pm – Wellbeing Walk @ Victoria Park. Relax and reward yourself with this wellbeing walk in the award-winning Victoria Park. Free event for anyone currently volunteering in Hackney, please book in advance.

Thursday 8 June, 11.30am-2pm – Cheap to Chic @ Volunteer Centre Hackney
Get crafty and learn a new skill, using local flowers to make a stunning flower arrangement for local charities in need. Free event, please book in advance.

Hammersmith & Fulham

Thursday 1 June – To say thank you Hammersmith and Fulham Volunteer Centre will be hosting a celebration picnic at Ravenscourt Park for all those who volunteer in Hammersmith and Fulham. Food and drink will be provided – just bring a rug to sit on. If you would like to attend please register here.

Haringey

Wednesday 14 June, 11am-2pm – Join Volunteer Centre Haringey for their Mega Summer Volunteering Fair, kindly hosted at the Jobcentre Plus, Top Floor, 640-656 High Road, Tottenham N17 0AX.

Harrow

Voluntary Action Harrow will be part of the Big Recruit on 7 June, 11am-2pm and 6-8pm at their offices at The Lodge, 64 Pinner Road, Harrow, HA1 4HZ.

Havering

Havering Volunteer Centre will be part of the Big Recruit on 7 June 9am-5pm at their offices at Community Reach House, 32-34 The High Street, Romford RM1 1HR and also at a stall at Romford Market near Lloyds Bank.

Friday 9 June, 10am-3pm –  There will also be a Big Thank You Celebration at Queen’s Theatre Green, Hornchurch RM11 1AX. It will be a fund packed event with lots going on. The Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Havering will be awarding certificates to recognise the contribution of volunteers and Lydia Lucy will be performing!

Hounslow

Islington

Tuesday 6 June, 12-3pm – Volunteer Centre Camden and Volunteer Centre Islington will be holding a joint volunteering fair at Voluntary Action Islington, 200a Pentonville Road, N1 9JP. There’s no need to book, come down to meet the team and talk to over 40 local organisations looking to recruit volunteers.

Kensington & Chelsea

Monday 5 June, 11am-3pm – Join Volunteer Centre Kensington and Chelsea for their Volunteer Fair at the Copthorne Tara Hotel, Kensington, London W8 5SY.

Merton

Richmond

Thursday 8 June, 2-6pm – Richmond CVS will be holding a volunteer fair at at Richmond Adult Community College which is in the heart of Richmond,  the address is Parkshot, TW9 2RE and is a 5 minute walk from Richmond Station. Monday 5 June, 11am-2pm – Want to find out about local volunteering opportunities in and around Southwark? Community Southwark’s Volunteering Advice service will be in Surrey Quays Shopping Centre to get Volunteers’ Week off to a flying start. Drop through the entrance nearest the Tesco to meet recruiting organisations and receive advice on how to get your volunteering story started! Sutton

Tuesday 6 June, 11am-3pm – Join Volunteer Centre Sutton for their High Street event outside the old BHS building. You will be given a free goody bag that includes suggestions for how you can micro-volunteer for a local organisations in just 30 minutes (or less).

Waltham Forest

Thursday 1 June, 10am-5pm – Join Community Waltham Forest for advice and information about volunteering at their stall outside Costa Coffee at Selbourne Walk Shopping Mall in Walthamstow E17 7JR.

Wednesday 7 June, 10am-4pm – Community Waltham Forest will be holding a drop-in volunteering opportunity and advice session at South Chingford Community Library, 265 Chingford Mount Rd, Chingford E4 8LP.

Westminster
